With a sparkling personality, an intense drive and athletic talent to match, Pro Bowl and Super Bowl Champion Michael Robinson has proven to be a favorite of fans, media, coaches and teammates, alike. This Richmond, Virginia native has transformed from a small-town high school quarterback to Hollywood-ready star. With enough talent to go around, Michael played Quarterback, Running Back and Wide Receiver while attending Penn State University. Robinson looks back on his years at Penn State with great endearment. After all, he did lead the team to a Big Ten Conference Title, an Orange Bowl victory, and also earned himself Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Honors in addition to being a Heisman Finalist. However, his success at Penn State was not just on the gridiron– he also earned Academic All-Big Ten three consecutive years, while gaining degrees in Advertising, Public Relations and Sports Journalism.
All of Michael’s hard work and persistent paid off in 2006 when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round. After four and a half years with the 49er’s, Michael was released and ready for a fresh start when he got the call from the Seattle Seahawks. Michael immediately hit the ground running in Seattle and his impact was evident both on and off the field. He brought the Seahawks instant offensive stability, securing his first Pro Bowl honors for the 2011-2012 season. A favorite of teammates, coaches and fans, Michael’s athletic prowess and locker-room presence and leadership helped to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl Championship in 2014. After 8 NFL seasons and 6 years as team captain, Michael decided to go out on top and retired in 2014 to pursue a career in Broadcasting.
From back at his days at Penn State, Robinson’s commitment to Broadcasting and Journalism has always been steadfast. During his NFL Career, he appeared as a regular guest analyst for all of the major sports networks including NFL Network, ESPN, NBC Sports Talk, SiriusXM Radio, Fox Sports Radio, just to name a few! Michael’s extensive broadcast experience combined with his broadcasting degree helped him to create the wildly popular, Real Rob Report, Michael’s own talk show which featured exclusive interviews with today’s top athletes. It is because of his great connections in the Industry and his extensive on camera experience that immediately landed Robinson two analyst positions upon his retirement, one at NFL Network and the Big Ten Network.
In 2010, Michael founded his Excel to Excellence Foundation. Excel to Excellence develops innovative programs and strong partnerships that provide the resources, life experiences and environment to mold youth and the community into healthy, educated leaders of tomorrow.
As part of his football foundation, Michael hosts the #1 Youth Football League in his hometown of Richmond, VA teaching football fundamentals, academics, sportsmanship and healthy competition. The goal of the youth football league is to help young people realize their sustainable skills gained through sport to be successful in life. Michael has also developed a program called TEAM EXCEL, a national initiative designed to motivate kids to excel in the classroom. TEAM EXCEL is a “reverse” Fantasy Football concept where students become the fantasy athletes, and professional athletes and community mentors serve as team coaches. Each week, students receive individual and team scores based on their grades, attendance, and community service. TEAM EXCEL is rapidly expanding across the United States to include additional cities and athletes.
Michael is also an accomplished speaker, delivering inspiring and motivational speeches for companies such as Comcast, Owens and Minor, Boys and Girls Club, Colonial Webb Health Conference (2018) as well as being the featured commencement speaker for J. Sargent Reynolds, just to name a few. Michael usually speaks on teamwork, building a championship culture, self motivation, spirituality and goal setting among others.
This wonderful example for the next generation is looking forward to seeing where his broadcasting career takes him. With all of his success and different ventures, it is clear that Robinson makes a habit of giving everything he has to his projects, his career, and his family. This multi-faceted, intelligent and media-savvy giant is definitely headed down the path of a fruitful career post-football and with his success thus far in all avenues of life, it is certain he will achieve his full potential there, as well.
